Confusing our Youth: Robots, Aliens & Natural Disasters
Every generation’s youth has its own set of unique challenges. Our current generation of youth is faced with challenges like never before.
Currently, we are seeing our youth challenged by “robots, aliens and natural disasters.”
Robots & Artificial Intelligence
Although technology seemingly makes our lives easier, we can find hidden dangers in how it influences our youth. For example: Elon Musk thinks we’ll have self-driving cars in a matter of years. Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) taking away jobs? Maybe we’ll see these things to some degree, however not to the extent that it’s advertised.
This reminds me of my own youth (way back in the 70’s!) when scientists shared predictions of flying cars. I remember thinking, (after watching the Jetsons cartoon) “Why would I need to learn how to drive if the flying cars are coming soon! I can just get into a flying car and let it take me anywhere I want to go!” Also, “Why would I need an education, learn a skill or trade when robots of the future will do all our work for us?”
Do you think our youth are confused by this prospect of robots doing all the work? Confused by robots or AI driving them or doing jobs that people used to do … all while people everywhere are enjoying universal basic income? It might come to fruition or will develop to a far lesser degree than experts envision.
God’s Word tells us that people should work. That’s always been the case. God’s Word is truth and never fails.
2 Timothy 2:15
Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.
Colossians 3:23
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
Aliens
There’s been buzz in the national media about UFO’/UAP’s lately, and it’s concerning that our youth will be confused by this as well. Could it be someone’s ploy to create a new religion?
Why is it that some fuzzy picture or video showing what people think is a spaceship is taken as truth? It’s just a fuzzy video. When “experts” discuss aliens, they use words like … “almost definitely” and “probably.”
Alien enthusiasts seemingly act like aliens are their savior and the aliens will save them and give them special consciousness and powers. There are those who ‘want’ to believe in extra-terrestrials … is it a hoax, publicity stunt … or a combination?
It could be the biggest deception of all time … perhaps a foreshadowing of the coming antichrist? One way or another, we will always have God’s Word for answers. 1 John chapter 4 is the perfect scripture to test someone’s spirit/intentions.
Everyone carries cameras in their pockets, but nobody has a clear picture of aliens. This should tell us it’s not truth. The fact that God’s creation is so vast that it would take years to go that far into space … should solidify the information provided is all based on a hoax.
Natural Disasters | Climate Change
Do scientists know that climate change is real? If scientists prove (or have proven) climate change is real, is the state of our planet in the degree of danger they claim it is? Climate change is a huge “rabbit hole,” and you’ll find all kinds of different opinions from various scientists on this topic.
Will this, too, confuse our youth? My elementary school science teacher told us that we’d have an ice age by the time I hit 40 years old. That day is long gone … no ice age.
As a child, I remember thinking: “Why should I try so hard when it’s all going to come to an end?” I thought that “the upcoming math quiz isn’t important if all is lost anyway.” I eventually got past that after discussing the future with level-headed, faith-filled adults.
Our Future
As Christians, we already know the “end game.” We have God’s Word to confirm “how the story ends” and to guide and comfort us in these times of uncertainty.
Let’s make certain our kids understand the Truth. The good news is that we will always find the truth in God’s Word.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
2 Thessalonians 2:3-4
Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed—the one who brings destruction.[b] 4 He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.
